Crew Changes

All three crews had some change in crew assignments this July 08. The Red Crew lost Driver Rail and gained Driver Curiel. Blue Crew lost Driver Unruh and gained Driver Adcock. Gold Crew lost Capt. Baudoin and Capt. Winters and gained Capt. Stewart and Capt. Unruh.


Machine Fire

Local company who turns straw and coconut hair into ground cover has a fire in thier shredder. Blue crew extinguished to fire using the aerial and dump tanks. July 08

Gold Crew runs 10-48 fatality

On the 26th of May, Gold Crew responded to vehicle accident with possible entrapment. SQ-4 arrived on scene first and found this Ford Focus. High speed and a flooded road lead to a fatality.

Rope Assignments

On May 9th 2008 Blue crew responded to the Hutchinson Clinic to assist Police with an intruder in the building. A simple lowering system was used to lower PD into the ventilation ducts on the roof. On May 20th 2008 Blue crew responded to a Grain elevator for two employees stuck on a manlift. Rescuers were lowered down to employees where they harnessed and assisted them to the ground. Thanks to all crews who assisted.

Breaking out the Kevlar

Recent bomb threats at area supermarkets test our response to intruders. Fire units were dispatched to 5 threats in a two day period. Luckily there was no real emergency and it was reported that 2 of the 5 threats were creditable and the other 3 were copycats. This left a little time for us to get some photos of us in our fine looking kevlar.Aug. 07


July 2007

July was a busy month for the fellas at #4. We had multiple fires including: a garage fire, barn fire, house fire, a fire in a business, and a fire in a paper mill. Throw in a couple of motorcycle wrecks due to the bike rally that was in town and you have the makings of a busy month.


EF5 Tornado Response

On May 4th 2007, an EF5 tornado hits Greensburg Kansas and destroys 95% of the town. Hutchinson's Structural Collapse Technicians were deployed to help with the search and rescue efforts.

Drive Through Coffee Break

On the 9th of April 2007 Blue Crew respondes to a call for a vehicle fire at a local gas station. On arrival, SQ-4 finds a vehicle inside the structure.A call for a first alarm assignment was made due to visible smoke inside the gas station. Come to find out that the smoke was just coffee creamer. No injuries were reported.


Mine Shaft Rescue Training

Blue Crew demonstrates an elevator rescue in the 650 foot deep mine shaft that leads to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum. Mar 07

Ventilation Training

Gold Crew practices opening a roof for vertical ventalation on a vacant house. Crews took turns on the house after the recent rookie class was done with it. Mar 07


Promotion and Transfers

Congratulations to Darrin Schrock for his promotion to Captain on Red Crew.Congratulations to Darin Gehring for his promotion from Station #4 to Battalion Chief on the Gold Crew. Also, welcome to FF Chambers and FF Mencl for their transfer to Station #4.


CRV Training

Crews take turns using the CRV on a pit fire at the Hutchinson Municipal Airport. A 500lb. Purple K system was recently added to the truck.
